lyrics

DEAREST ANNIE written by Dan Blakeslee on 5/8/20 ©2023
Dearest Annie, I hope this letter finds you well.
I am writing from quarantine, together we’re going through hell.
Today a flower bloomed from a box in the basement.
Words you wrote to me 30 years ago.
It came Canadian post, and it came from your heart.
So I’ll dust off my reply, at least it’s a start.

There’s still time to bring sunshine,
And light to a friend.
Time to grow a new vine,
Bring light in again.

Back when we met in a little village by the sea.
I was clearing tables, you were with your family.
Then we saw that moon, as it hung over old Quebec.
It’s still follows me, I guess it never left.
And at the end of that summer, I had to go to school.
Once a crazy boy, now a crazy man… still a crazy fool!

There’s still time to bring sunshine,
And light to a friend.
Time to grow a new vine,
Bring light in again.

I get a tear in my eye, every time I hear that song… “Ne Me Quitte Pas”,
So I am writing you, for that I can’t be wrong.

There’s still time to bring sunshine,
And light to a friend.
Time to grow a new vine,
Bring light in again.
